Scholarship Guidelines

QUALIFICATIONS
1.  Applicant must be a member in good standing of the THLRSC and be actively engaged in the breeding, raising and showing of the Holland Lop breed for at least 2 years prior to graduation from high school.  Applicant must be a legal resident of the State of Texas.
2.  Applicants may apply for a scholarship through the age of twenty-three (23) or for no more than 4 years of actively attending college.
3.  Applicant must have graduated from high school with at least a “C” average, or if already attending college, must  maintain a “C” average (GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 system).
4.  The Scholarship is to be used for college or vocational training.

APPLICATION FOR THLRSC SCHOLARSHIP
1.  An announcement of the Scholarship for the new year will be printed in the Texas Holland Lop Newsletter in the Fall edition (Oct-Dec) and the application form will be printed in the Winter edition (Jan/Mar).  Notice of application deadlines and basic requirements will be printed in the Jan-Mar edition of the THLRSC Newsletter.  All applications must be completely filled out and sent to the THLRSC President, postmarked no later then June 15.  THLRSC President will send copies of all applications to all members of the Scholarship Awards Committee to arrive by July 1.  Announcement of the award selection will be made by letter to the recipient and in the summer edition of the THLRSC Newsletter (Jul-Sept).
2. The applicant must submit 2 letters of recommendation: one (1)  from a THLRSC member in good standing and one (1) from a person of the applicant’s choice. No letter of recommendation will be accepted from the THLRSC President, Vice-President, Secretary/Treasurer or Scholarship Awards Committee or immediate family member.
3.  The applicant must submit a high school transcript and if attending college or vocational school, must submit an of official copy of current grades or transcript.  
4.  A letter from the youth as to why he/she should receive the award must accompany the application.  This letter will include what his/her educational objectives, field of study, goals and the reason why they have decided on these choices. (Please use another sheet of paper)
5.  Application must be made and approved each year.  Scholarship is for one (1) year only (Sept. 1 through May 31).  A previous recipient may reapply for consideration each year, as long as he/she is qualified.

SCHOLARSHIP FUND OPERATING PROCEDURES

1. A separate interest bearing account will be established and maintained by the President, Vice-President and Secretary/Treasurer.  The purpose of the account will be to hold those funds received by the THLRSC and designated for the Scholarship Fund.  This includes donations, raffles, shows, auctions and other related activities so designated.  The funds must be used for Scholarship purposes.

2.  The President will appoint a yearly Scholarship Committee to perform the task of reviewing and selecting qualified THLRSC members who apply for scholarships.  The committee will select at least one (1) qualified candidate from the  applications submitted.  The committee shall consist of at least one (1) each of the following:  club officer, director, two (2) open club members and the youth chairman.

3.  Each THLRSC member selected will receive a Scholarship for $250.  The scholarship will be paid by semester with each  semester receiving $125 with proof of registration.  The awardee must provide written proof that the youth is registered in a college or vocational school for a minimum of 9 semester hours or equivalent prior to receiving money.  This proof is to be sent to the  THLRSC President or his/her designated representative by Sept. 15 for the Fall semester and Feb. 1 for the Spring semester.
